MY STORY
Growing up, you could probably say I had a most idyllic childhood. A product of the 90's and before the age of smartphones, I spent A LOT of time outdoors with friends whether it was on my bike, the woods behind my house, playing flashlight tag at night....you get the picture. Anyway, from all my memories, there was no other time of year that I looked forward to than summer and the prospect of visiting my grandparents cabin in the heart of the Pennsylvania mountains.
Their cabin had everything a kid could dream of - a sleeping loft for me and my cousins, puzzles & games, a firepit, trees for climbing, dirt, no tv, and a shallow creek where I probably spent 90% of my time. Better than any pool, this creek had a deep swimming hole, easy rapids, fish, large boulders, rope swings, and lots of skipping stones. Coupled with a ton of imagination, my cousins and I felt like the luckiest kids on the planet.
Fast forward to today. I've since fallen in love with 3 things: my wife Ashley, our 2 beautiful kiddos, and architecture - particularly small, well designed projects, like cabins. Throughout my studies and progress towards licensure as an architect, I came to believe that the souls of families and individuals can be enriched and strengthened through well designed spaces, married with their surroundings.
Like so many people, a cabin represents so much more than a simple place to live - an escape from the pressures of life; a place to reset, re-group, and rest. They are the backdrop of family gatherings, barbeques, laughter, skipping stones, fresh watermelon, finding fossils and crawfish among river rocks, and telling ghost stories around a campfire at night. To you, a cabin could include these as well as new and different experiences that last a lifetime and define you as individuals and families.
